Siberian ginseng, also known as "Eleuthero," is primarily cultivated in countries like Korea, Japan, China, and Russia. The medicinal parts of Siberian ginseng include the root, stem, leaves, and fruit. In China, it's commonly used to replenish energy, nourish the heart, and calm the mind. It is especially used in the treatment of conditions like rheumatism, diabetes, and hepatitis.
The Health Benefits of Siberian Ginseng

Siberian Ginseng stimulates metabolic function, promoting the absorption of carbohydrates and fatty acids into cells as an energy source. This helps to increase energy levels, keeping you active and energized throughout the day.
Siberian Ginseng helps regulate blood sugar levels. It promotes the release of glucose in the early stages and helps restore blood sugar to normal levels during the "adaptation" phase.
Siberian Ginseng helps combat various forms of physical and mental stress. Studies have shown that it can regulate the cardiovascular system’s response to stress (such as blood pressure and heart rate). It can even help reduce fatigue, improve overall health, and enhance focus and concentration.
Siberian Ginseng is clinically used to treat cardiovascular diseases due to its content of eleutherosides. It can help improve blood lipid levels and prevent the development of arteriosclerosis.
Siberian Ginseng extract can regulate the levels of norepinephrine and dopamine in certain areas of the brain, which may be helpful in treating conditions like Parkinson’s disease and depression. It also has neuroprotective effects, helping protect brain neurons from various types of damage.
The polysaccharides and proteins in Siberian ginseng have immune-regulating effects. They stimulate the proliferation of lymphocytes, particularly T-cells and natural killer cells, and also help activate T-cells in the body. Research shows that it can reduce the risk of respiratory infections and complications.
Although their names sound similar, Siberian ginseng is not the same as the common ginseng we typically refer to. According to WebMD, Siberian ginseng (also known as Eleuthero) is often used to boost the immune system, prevent colds, and improve appetite. It's also used to improve cardiovascular health under conditions of both high and low blood pressure, as well as to cope with chemotherapy side effects, kidney diseases, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Additionally, according to the official website of Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania, Siberian ginseng is often used to prevent colds and flu, increase energy, stimulate the immune system, and extend lifespan. One of the main active ingredients in Siberian ginseng is eleutheroside, which is different from the active compounds in the more commonly known ginseng. The common ginseng (Panax Ginseng) contains ginsenosides as its active ingredients.
Therefore, it’s important to emphasize that these are not the same plant, and their effects differ. Be sure not to buy the wrong one.
